NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) — Jalen Garces stood silent before the judge, expressionless as he was sentenced Friday to 28 years in prison for the shooting death of 33-year-old Ali Muhammad, the son of a prominent community activist.
Garces, 28, was sentenced to 23 years in prison for second-degree murder, plus five additional years for firearm-related charges after he was convicted for the murder of Muhammad on June 29, 2023. Garces was also facing Possession of a Firearm by a Felon charges, but that charge was nolle prosequi.
