Investigation: Portsmouth reverses course, decides to pay for SWAT damage

PORTSMOUTH, Va. (WAVY) — At first, the city refused to reimburse the owners of an Olde Towne apartment after police broke in as they were pursuing a murder suspect last October, even though he did not live there.

Tenant Stephanie Jordan recorded the incident on her Ring camera. Police armed with flashbang grenades, guns and a battering ram came through the door Oct. 6. Jordan was at work at the time.

“I felt violated and I didn’t feel safe,” she said, recalling how she felt when she got home. Her pets were home and she says they were traumatized, too.

Jordan showed the video to property manager Doug Gerek, who would have to coordinate the repairs…
