NEWPORT NEWS, Va. — Mayor Phillip Jones announced Tuesday that all City of Newport News flags will be flown at half-staff to honor the life and legacy of Rev. Jesse Jackson Sr., a prominent leader in the American civil rights movement. He passed away on February 17 at the age of 84.
According to the mayor’s office, flags will be lowered at sunrise on March 1 and remain at half-staff through sunset on March 7.
