Deputies use plate reader alert to find missing Virginia man safe in Pitt County

A Virginia man reported missing was safely located Monday in Pitt County after deputies used an automated license plate reader system, authorities said.

According to the Pitt County Sheriff’s Office, a deputy patrolling in the Bethel area around 12:46 p.m. Feb. 23 received a real-time alert from the department’s Flock Safety Camera system. The alert indicated a vehicle associated with a 30-year-old man entered in the National Crime Information Center database as missing had passed one of the county’s cameras.

The deputy located the vehicle and conducted a traffic stop on N.C. 11 near Package Craft Road. PCSO said that the driver was confirmed as the missing person from Newport News, Virginia…
