Chesapeake’s new e-check system experiencing technical issues

CHESAPEAKE, Va. (WAVY) – The Chesapeake Treasurer’s Office is reporting technical issues with its newly deployed online e-check system. Officials are advising taxpayers to use alternative payment methods while the city works with a third-party vendor to resolve the problem.

The issue originated within a product from the city’s vendor. The Treasurer’s Office and the City of Chesapeake Information Technology Department are actively working with the provider to fix the system.

Taxpayers can continue to make payments in person or via 24-hour drop boxes at all four Treasurer’s Office locations. Drop boxes are also positioned near the front and back doors of City Hall and in the parking lot on the eastern side of the City Hall building. Cash, personal checks, money orders, debit cards and credit cards are accepted at these locations. The office noted that large volumes of coins must be rolled in bank wrappers before they are accepted.

Payments may also be sent by mail to the City of Chesapeake Treasurer’s Office at 306 Cedar Road, Chesapeake, VA 23312. For those paying by phone, Visa, MasterCard, Discover and American Express are accepted at 844-382-4426. These phone and online credit card options can be used for personal property taxes, real estate taxes, parking tickets, stormwater fees, miscellaneous invoices and EMS bills…
