Driver arrested after wrong-way incident on Chesapeake Expressway Sunday morning

CHESAPEAKE, Va. — Chesapeake police say a driver is in custody after multiple reports of a wrong-way vehicle on the Chesapeake Expressway Sunday morning.

According to the Chesapeake Police Department, officers were called around 8:14 a.m. for reports of a red Chevy Suburban traveling south in the northbound lanes of the expressway at a high rate of speed.

Police said the vehicle was seen crossing the 168 Bypass bridge over the Albemarle Canal before continuing south. As it approached the Edinburgh area, the driver made a U-turn in the median and began traveling north in the correct lanes…
