Hampton Roads closures for week of March 29-April 4

HAMPTON ROADS, Va. (WAVY) — Road work will impact your commutes all around Hampton Roads this weekend and into next week ahead of the Easter holiday the following weekend.

The Virginia Department of Transportation is reporting the following impacts to roads across the region for the week of March 29 through April 4. The below list covers full closures of interstates, ramps, bridges and primary roads, along with lane closures at the bridge-tunnels and the Berkley, Coleman, High Rise and James River bridges.

VDOT said it would suspend many highway work zones and lift most lane closures on interstates and other major roads in Virginia for holiday travel from noon Friday, April 3, until noon Tuesday, April 7.

For the week of March 29-April 4 (Scheduled closures are subject to change based on weather conditions and other factors)

Hampton Roads Bridge-Tunnel, I-64:

  • Single-lane closure eastbound March 30 from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.
  • Alternating, single-lane closures westbound March 31-April 2 from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.

Monitor-Merrimac Memorial Bridge-Tunnel, I-664:

  • Single-lane closure northbound March 30 from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m.
  • Alternating, single-lane closures in both directions March 30-April 2 from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.
  • Mobile, single-lane closure northbound April 2 from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m.

George P. Coleman Bridge, Route 17:

  • Alternating, mobile, single-lane closures in both directions March 30-31 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

James River Bridge, Route 17:

  • Alternating, single-lane closures southbound March 30-April 2 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
  • Single-lane closures northbound March 30-31 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

High Rise Bridge, I-64:

  • Single-lane closures eastbound April 1-2 from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m.

Elizabeth River Crossings (Downtown/Midtown Tunnels):

  • Go to DriveERC.com for scheduled closures on the Downtown Tunnel (I-264), Midtown Tunnel (Route 58) and MLK Expressway (Route 164).

I-64, Chesapeake:

  • Full ramp closures from as early as 8 p.m. to as late as 5 a.m.:
  • I-64 east to I-464 north (exit 291A) March 29-April 2
  • I-64 west to I-464 north (exit 291A) March 30-April 2
  • Full on-ramp closure from Greenbrier Parkway to I-64 east April 2 from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m.

I-64, Gap Widening Segment C, James City County:

  • Single-lane closures on I-64 in both directions from the New Kent County-James City County line to Route 199/Lightfoot (exit 234) March 30-April 2 and April 5 from as early as 7 p.m. to as late as 7 a.m.

I-64, Chesapeake Express Lanes:
