The City of Newport News is moving forward with plans to replace the Hilton Fishing Pier and the Monitor-Merrimac Overlook Park Fishing Pier, both closed since April 2025 due to severe structural damage. Engineers are completing design and permit work, with construction expected to start in late 2026 or early 2027. The city projects completion by October 2027 for Hilton and June 2028 for Monitor-Merrimac.
