Attempted murder, other charges in 2025 Suffolk shooting certified to grand jury

SUFFOLK, Va. (WAVY) — Charges of malicious wounding and attempted murder against a man in connection to an August 2025 incident on Whaleyville Boulevard in Suffolk were certified to a grand jury Tuesday in Suffolk General District Court.

Joseph Barnes, 47, was arrested back in August 2025 on several charges, including malicious wounding and attempted murder, for an incident that happened in the 5900 block of Whaleyville Boulevard in Suffolk. The judge determined that there was enough evidence for Barnes, who faces 15 charges in all in connection to the incident, to go to trial and certified the charges to a grand jury that meets in May.
