Chesapeake’s Greenbrier Mall evacuates for electrical issue, then reopens

CHESAPEAKE, Va. (WAVY) — Greenbrier Mall in Chesapeake was temporarily closed Friday, after an electrical malfunction that caused a smoke odor and equipment failures, promoting an evaluation. The mall reopened later in the afternoon.

Chesapeake Fire Department units responded to the scene at 12:21 p.m. on 1401 Greenbrier Parkway for reports of a smoke odor inside the building.

Upon arrival, firefighters met with mall security and Dominion Energy to investigate the power surge that affected portions of the mall.
