Case of Portsmouth man accused of killing pregnant wife moves to trial, choosing to represent himself in court

PORTSMOUTH, Va. (WAVY) — A Portsmouth man accused of killing his pregnant wife appeared in court Friday for a preliminary hearing, where a judge certified all charges against him, allowing the case to move forward to trial.

Hasheed Mills is charged in the February 2025 shooting death of Shaquana Jordan at the Chesapeake Pointe Apartments. Prosecutors allege Jordan was pregnant at the time of her death.

Mills faces multiple charges, including aggravated murder of a pregnant woman, use of a firearm in the commission of a felony and child abuse. He has elected to represent himself in court.

During the hearing, prosecutors called eight witnesses, including detectives, a medical examiner, a property manager and a friend of the victim. Testimony also came from Jordan’s sister and a neighbor who called 911 on the night of the shooting…
