WILLIAMSBURG, Va., (WAVY) — Suhani Joshi, 14, an 8th-grade student at Hampton Roads Academy in Newport News, is the regional spelling winner headed to the National Spelling Bee in Washington, D.C, where nearly 250 nationwide champions are competing for the Scripps Cup.
Preliminary national rounds begin May 26 in Constitution Hall at the Daughters of the American Revolution headquarters. Suhani, of Williamsburg, previously competed in 2025, where she tied for 100th place. Suhani’s favorite word is Bisbigliando, which is a whispering sound in music when a person plays a harp.
