NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WAVY) – The City of Newport News’ “Stars in the Sky” Independence Day celebration, scheduled for Saturday, July 4, will be delayed because of the anticipated heat this weekend.

The Hampton Roads region is currently under a heat advisory.
Gates for the event at Victory Landing Park will now open at 7 p.m., a change from the original 5 p.m. start, due to concerns about potentially dangerous heat, according to a news release from the city Wednesday afternoon.
Torrance Archie, Director of Newport News Parks and Recreation, explained that the postponement of the start time was made “Out of concern for the safety of our residents, visitors and staff.”…
