CHESAPEAKE, Va. (WAVY) — A portion of South Military Highway is closed as crews respond to a large fire in the Bowers Hill area.
According to officials, fire crews were called to a large construction facility, in the 4000 block of South Military Highway, after receiving reports of smoke and flames showing. Crews arrived on scene at 12:28 p.m. and found a large mulch pile on fire with employees working to extinguish.
City officials took to x announcing South Military Highway is closed in both directions at Enterprise Circle.

Crews are actively working to contain the fires to protect nearby residences and property. No injuries have been reported at this time.
