Inside Navy’s Five-Year, $1.7 Billion Plan to Renovate 8,000 Sailor Beds

The Navy has announced a $1.7 billion plan to construct and renovate 8,098 beds in the Hampton Roads region.

Hampton Roads is an area in Virginia that includes Newport News, Hampton, Norfolk, Virginia Beach, Suffolk and Chesapeake. It is home to several military installations, including major Air Force, Army, Marine Corps and Coast Guard facilities, as well as Navy housing.

The Navy, in a statement on Wednesday, said an agreement was signed July 1 with private military housing company Hunt Military Communities and the Office of the Secretary of Defense. They will deliver modern housing and retail amenities in downtown Newport News and other Hampton Roads areas.
