A strengthening September nor’easter is churning up the East Coast, bringing coastal flooding from North Carolina to New York before aiming hurricane-force wind gusts and torrential rain directly at New England this weekend.
A full moon is driving tides 2 to 3 feet above average, pushing ocean water deep into roadways across southeastern Virginia and swamping parts of Norfolk and Virginia Beach. Forecasters warn the rough surf will trigger severe beach erosion along the entire coastline.
