Shelter-in-place order lifted at NSA Portsmouth, Norfolk Naval Shipyard after suspicious package found

PORTSMOUTH, Va. (WAVY) — A shelter-in-place order was lifted at Naval Support Activity Portsmouth and Norfolk Naval Shipyard on the main installation Monday afternoon after a suspicious package was found, the shipyard said Monday afternoon.

NSA Portsmouth received a report of a suspicious package around 4 p.m., and, out of an abundance of caution, shipyard and NSA Portsmouth officials issued a base-wide lockdown, with everyone being asked to steer clear of Building 1526 unless responding to the emergency.

The shipyard said appropriate law enforcement authorities responded immediately and determined the area to be clear of all threats, and the all-clear was announced at around 4:30 p.m…
