String of shootings prompts Portsmouth to look for ways to combat gun violence

PORTSMOUTH, Va. — Community members and advocates in Portsmouth are looking for ways to combat gun violence in the city.

Over the past 8 days, Portsmouth saw three shootings: One on Arcadia Ave. on March 2, Another on town point road on Feb. 23, and according to Councilman Vernon Tillage, another on High Street, Feb. 28.

Brent Deaver is a retired cop and Portsmouth resident. Between these shootings and other shootings over the past few months in different areas, Deaver said he doesn’t feel safe anymore in Portsmouth…
