Naval Station Norfolk’s MWR Auto Skills Center offers weekly vehicle maintenance workshops

NORFOLK, Va. — Naval Station (NAVSTA) Norfolk’s Morale, Welfare and Recreation (MWR) Auto Skills Center program provides hands-on vehicle maintenance training through weekly workshops open to all Department of Defense (DoD) ID card holders.

Held every Wednesday through Friday from 12 p.m. to 3 p.m. and on weekends from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., these instructional sessions allow Sailors and authorized DoD ID card holders to learn the basics of car maintenance from oil changes and tire rotations to fluid checks and filter replacements in a supportive, low-pressure environment.

“We have just about all the basic hand working tools,” said Tim Daubert, MWR Auto Skills Center manager, who has worked at the facility for 47 years. “We have some diagnostic equipment they can use, and we also have a data system where they can look up their car model and view what kind of problems they’re having to get more information on their vehicle.”…
