VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) — More than 100 employees of Virginia Beach City Public Schools are suing the superintendent, alleging he concealed information about double-digit health insurance premium hikes until after contracts for the year had to be signed.
In a complaint filed Wednesday in Virginia Beach Circuit Court, 112 anonymous plaintiffs are asking for a jury to award them damages and a judge to issue an injunction that would prevent the school division from implementing the increased rates they say will “irreversibly reduce” their wages and benefits.
The increases set to go into effect Jan. 1, 2026 were announced earlier this month to the school division’s more than 10,000 person workforce. Since then, some of those affected claimed their 4.5% salary increase and $650 bonus will be eaten up by their new health insurance payments…
