Portsmouth sets new rules on clubs and restaurants with late night entertainment

PORTSMOUTH, Va. (WAVY) — New rules are coming for those looking to open up bars, restaurants and clubs that cater to late-night crowds.

In a 5-2 vote Tuesday night, Portsmouth City Council approved amendments to its ordinances that allow for greater oversight of establishments in an effort to try a provide owners with clear operational and enforcement expectations.

Conditions that will apply to new businesses applying for use permits range from recommended hours of 8 a.m. – midnight for live entertainment to a ban on outside promoters…
