Norfolk school board asks for a significant pay raise

NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) — Norfolk School board members want to increase their pay from $3,060 per year to $25,000, with the board chair going from $5,100 to $27,000 as part of their overall budget proposal.

The amount they are getting paid now is significantly lower then the amount earned by school board members in neighboring cities. In Virginia Beach, school board members get $20,000. Suffolk recently increased board member pay to $15,000. The $3,060 board member pay in Norfolk trails behind, and it was at $3,000 as far back as 1998.
