Newport News Police Chief weighs in on sharp increase in youth shooting victims

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. — 13News Now uncovered a sharp increase in the number of Newport News kids who were shooting victims in 2025. On Friday, the police chief weighed in.

According to a public records request, 14 kids were shot this year, compared to four child victims in 2024. That’s a 250% increase.
