CHESAPEAKE, Va. (WAVY)– Firefighters are crediting a fast-acting neighbor following an overnight fire in the Camelot section of Chesapeake.
According to officials, fire crews were called to the 2600 block of Powell Circle just after 4 a.m. for the report of a residential fire. Crews arrived on scene within six minutes of the call and encountered smoke and visible flames coming from the home.
Prior to firefighters arrival, a nearby neighbor noticed the fire and took action. The neighbor alerted the occupant of the fire and assisted and her cat in safely evacuating the home.
Firefighters made an aggressive attack on the fire and stopped it spreading to other parts of the home. The fire was declared under control at 4:23 a.m…
