VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) – Virginia Beach business owner Coleman Ferguson is pausing his efforts to bring a major league sports team and arena to the city. The decision comes after the city’s development authority declined to shortlist his proposal for land located near the convention center.
Ferguson, who owns an ice cream parlor and event venue, began soliciting investors for the project in October. He told WAVY he raised more than $2.1 million for the initiative, but stated that he currently sees no path forward without access to the designated city land.

Ferguson had hoped to be the first developer to secure a professional sports presence and a dedicated arena for the city.
