Man convicted after strangling former girlfriend in Norfolk in 2025

NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) — On March 16, a man was convicted after strangling his former girlfriend in Norfolk in 2025, according to the Norfolk Commonwealth’s Attorney’s Office.

Between the evening of July 7 and the morning of July 8, 2025, Rahshon Sampson, 45, and his former girlfriend were arguing at their residence on W 28 Street when he started assaulting her. He pushed her to the floor, strangling her until she urinated herself and nearly lost consciousness. Sampson then forced his former girlfriend and her children to go outside. When officers arrived to the scene, they saw she had bruises on her neck and wasn’t breathing, talking or swallowing normally.

On March 16, Sampson pleaded not guilty and requested a trial by judge. The former girlfriend and Sampson testified. Sampson denied strangling his former girlfriend, but conceded that he grabbed and shoved her by putting his hand around her neck and applying pressure during the argument. After hearing the evidence and arguments, Judge Jennifer L. Fuschetti found Sampson guilty of felony strangulation and misdemeanor domestic assault, setting his sentencing hearing for July 24…
