VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) — While students in Virginia Beach public schools will no longer have classes April 21 due to the statewide vote on redistricting, they will have a slightly longer school day once they return from spring break.
To make up the difference in lost time, the School Board approved extending the school day by 10 minutes from April 13 through June 8.
The Virginia Beach School Board approved giving students off April 21 since it is also the day of the special election on statewide redistricting, with 58 of the city’s public schools being used as polling precincts. The school division’s Office of Security and Emergency Management said the risks of operating the schools with polling precincts while students were present “cannot be mitigated to an acceptable level.”…
