NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WAVY) — Newport News City Council is expected to vote Tuesday to send more than $3 million to Newport News-Williamsburg Airport to keep operations moving for another year.
However, there is hope among city leadership that a recent $3 million grant from the state will one day, again, help the airport to be self-sustaining.
Last month, Gov. Abigail Spanberger (D-Va.) announced $5.1 million worth of awards for economic development projects in Hampton Roads and Virginia’s Eastern Shore as part of the GO Virginia program. The majority of that money will go to help start up the Hampton Roads Mobility Innovation Center, or MIC, to be based out of Newport News at both the airport and its remote control club park in the Richneck area…
