Le Comptoir is ending, but Bar Crenn is staying

Le Comptoir, the French omakase-style counter inside Bar Crenn on Fillmore Street, is being discontinued as chef Dominique Crenn reshapes the space around a broader cocktail lounge and dining experience. The move was announced this week and marks another major shift for one of the Bay Area’s most recognizable fine-dining groups. Bar Crenn itself will remain open.

The closure matters because Le Comptoir was not simply an add-on inside a bar. The intimate counter held one Michelin star and built a following for its highly choreographed tasting format. Guests were served 12 small plates with beverage pairings in a compact, reservation-driven setting that felt more like a chef’s performance than a standard dinner service.

Crenn is one of the most decorated chefs in the country. Her flagship Atelier Crenn, located next door, holds three Michelin stars and made history as the first restaurant in the United States led by a female chef-owner to receive Michelin’s top three-star rating.
