The teenage driver accused of killing three men in an East Oakland crash last month was released from custody on Tuesday by an Alameda County judge, according to reports.
The Oakland 17-year-old faces vehicular manslaughter and hit-and-run charges in connection to the May 16 incident, when he allegedly collided into parked vehicles, jumped the curb and plowed into a group of people on the sidewalk outside East Bay Market & Liquor. Prosecutors, who say the teenager was driving recklessly above 50 mph, believe the crash was related to speeding.
But Judge Arturo Castro said Tuesday that he saw no “intent apparent to harm anyone” in the crash, the Mercury News reported. Castro also said the teenager, whose identity was not disclosed due to his age, was not under the influence of alcohol or drugs and had no history of reckless driving or “bad blood” with any of the victims…
