LAFAYETTE, Calif. (KRON) — A BMW caught fire on Highway 24 not far from Lafayette BART Station Friday afternoon. A KRON4 reporter drove by the scene around 1:30 p.m. and captured video of the car fire.

In the video, traffic can be seen slowing to get around a first responder vehicle while firefighters attend to the blaze. Flames and thick smoke can be seen leaping from the front of the vehicle, a gray four-door BMW sedan.
The car was burning just ahead of the Oak Hill Road/Central Lafayette exit. There was no immediate word on what caused the fire.
The driver was able to exit the vehicle safely, according to the California Highway Patrol, which first received report of the incident around 1:19 p.m.
