Mark your calendar: May 17 is now ‘Bruce Lee Day’ in California

California is giving Bruce Lee a permanent place on the calendar.

On Tuesday, Gov. Gavin Newsom signed legislation to commemorate May 17 for the San Francisco native who changed martial arts and film history.

The bill by Assemblymember Matt Haney, D-San Francisco, honors Lee’s legacy in film, martial arts and Chinese American history, as well as his California roots. AB 2455 passed the state Senate with unanimous support, 38-0, before heading to Newsom’s desk…
