Bay Area Renaissance Faire vendor says $50,000 in handmade goods stolen from truck

An Oakland leather goods maker is scrambling to rebuild after thieves stole a truck packed with more than $50,000 worth of handmade merchandise days before the business was due to open at one of the country’s major Renaissance fairs.

Krakenwhip, an Oakland-based maker of leather belts, holsters, bags and accessories, said its truck was stolen the night of Friday, July 3, from outside an apartment, hours before one of the owners was scheduled to drive to the Bristol Renaissance Faire in Kenosha, Wis.

The truck has since been recovered, according to a GoFundMe organized by the company’s co-owner Molly Conway. But the company said the vehicle was not drivable, and “not a scrap of leather” was found inside…
