CA animal activist faces prison for rescuing sick goats and dogs

A member of the Berkeley-based animal welfare group Direct Action Everywhere is due in court Tuesday in the Central Valley, accused of taking two baby goats from Vera Goat Dairy in Stratford last year in order to get them medical care.

Carla Cabral, an organizer with with group, was charged by the Kings County District Attorney with two felonies and a misdemeanor. Cabral said the live goats were sick, and tests on carcasses Cabral removed from the property showed malnutrition and parasites. Cabral pointed out that animal control investigated but found no violations.

“It’s a shame that authorities spend so much taxpayer money going after whistleblowers instead of holding the industries accountable,” Cabral asserted…
