(KRON) — The Oakland Police Department arrested a Union City woman for selling alcohol at Lake Merritt to an underage decoy buyer, according to police. Officers faced a “hostile crowd” while making the arrest, OPD wrote.
Oakland police began investigating the unlicensed mobile alcohol street vendor at 599 El Embarcadero in June. At the time, “officers seized the alcohol and warned the vendor she lacked all required state and local licenses to operate and that continuing without proper permits was unlawful,” the police department wrote.
In addition to alcohol, the woman also sold T-shirts with “Support Street Vendors” written on them.
Investigators later found a post on social media that showed the woman was still selling alcohol despite her warning. OPD did not publicly release the woman’s name.
On July 10, police sent an underage decoy to buy alcohol from the vendor without an ID.
After the unlawful sale, “officers arrested her for possessing and serving alcohol in a public park. A hostile crowd gathered, but officers maintained control and completed the arrest. Her vehicle, illegally parked on the park’s grass, was found to have more than 75 outstanding parking citations,” police officials wrote…
