(KRON) — Jeanne Gibson, a World War II shipyard welder from Pinole, died Wednesday at the age of 100. Pacific Historic Parks announced the death of the veteran worker, who was a prominent figure at the Rosie the Riveter Museum in Richmond.
Gibson was known for her contributions to the war effort as one of the women who worked in the domestic shipyards. She spent years sharing her experiences with multiple generations of Americans at the Rosie the Riveter/World War II Home Front National Historical Park.
Gibson originally attended nursing school before deciding to change her career path during World War II. She left her studies to become a shipyard welder, where she contributed to the construction of ships for the war effort.
In 2024, Gibson traveled from San Francisco International Airport to Normandy, France. The trip was organized for the 80th anniversary of D-Day, honoring the veterans and workers who supported the military operations during the war…
