It’s no secret that successive tech booms from the 90s dotcom bubble through to today’s AI frenzy have brought wave after wave of tech workers to San Francisco.
But once they’re here, where do these workers live?
The answer is everywhere — but nowhere more than in Potrero Hill, according to Census data from 2020 to 2024.
Almost 37% of residents of the city’s Potrero Hill “analysis neighborhood” — which includes the Dogpatch — aged 21 to 74 work in tech or a field adjacent to it. The neighborhood sits along the Caltrain line and between Highway 280 and 101, meaning its residents can easily whisk themselves away to major tech job centers in places like Mountain View and Sunnyvale — or just to the offices of major employers like Salesforce and Anthropic in adjacent SoMa and Mission Bay…
