Some of the world’s most talented canine surfers hit the waves in Northern California this weekend as the World Dog Surfing Championships returned for its 10th year.
Held Saturday in Pacifica, about 15 miles south of San Francisco, the annual competition featured dogs of all sizes showing off their surfing skills while hundreds of spectators cheered them on from the beach.
From tiny spaniels to large Labrador retrievers, the four-legged competitors were judged on how long they stayed on their surfboards, the size of the waves they caught and their confidence riding them to shore. Each dog wore a life jacket, while human handlers helped guide the boards into incoming waves.
