Hazy skies are expected across Northern California this week as smoke from Northwest wildfires wafts throughout the West.
More than 2 million acres are burning in Oregon and Washington state, including many blazes exhibiting “extreme fire behavior,” according to the National Interagency Fire Center. One of those fires ripped through Spokane, Wash. on Saturday and destroyed hundreds of structures.
Though it was the most destructive of the bunch, the fire in Spokane isn’t producing the most smoke. Forest fires, including one near Washington’s Lake Chelan and another near Oregon’s Mount Hood, are charring trees and pumping dangerous microscopic particles into the atmosphere.
