Federal authorities say a five-month enforcement surge in Oakland has resulted in federal charges against 51 defendants and the seizure of 76 illegally possessed firearms. The FBI announced the results of the initiative, dubbed Operation Disarm, during a press conference today, describing it as a coordinated violent-crime and firearms enforcement effort that ran from March through July of 2026.
FBI Special Agent in Charge Scott Schelble credited the results to cooperation across multiple layers of government, emphasizing that federal, state, and local teamwork made the results possible, according to FBI San Francisco. The bureau’s San Francisco field office, which posted the announcement, says it is committed to intelligence-driven enforcement and to protecting the people of Oakland, and pledged to keep working with federal, state, and local partners to reduce violence in the city going forward.

A City Already Seeing Historic Drops in Violence
Operation Disarm’s rollout comes as Oakland has been posting some of its lowest violence figures in a generation.
