Earlier this month, Alameda Police Department (APD) officers were able to recover two stolen electric bicycles because the victims had documented their bikes’ serial numbers, according to an APD report on Facebook.
When the officers investigated the burglary involving the stolen bikes, they were able to enter the serial numbers into a law enforcement database as stolen property.
Later that day, an alert employee at a local business became suspicious when someone brought in a seemingly new electric bike and asked for a charger. An officer responded, and the bike was identified as one of those stolen earlier that day.
Following the investigation, APD officers obtained and executed a search warrant at a home in the 2100 block of Pacific Avenue. The officers recovered seven bicycles, including the second bike stolen during the burglary. The remaining bicycles are being reviewed to determine whether they are connected to other reported thefts…
