On Oct. 27, 1970, San Francisco Chronicle journalist Paul Avery received a strange card in the mail. It read, “Peek-A-Boo! You Are Doomed!” — and it was signed by the Zodiac Killer.
Avery had been reporting on the mysterious serial killer’s crimes and cryptic letters for over a year, and he’d even tried to track the criminal down himself. And the ominous note wasn’t going to stop him.
Indeed, a month after receiving the Halloween card, Avery wrote an article claiming the Zodiac Killer had fatally stabbed a woman in Riverside, California, back in 1966.
