The 40-year-old Triple Rock Brewery and Taphouse in downtown Berkeley, considered the oldest continuously operating brewpub in the country, will close at the end of the year.
In an announcement made on its website on Thursday, the company stated that brothers John and Reid Martin, who co-founded and own the brewpub, plan to retire. The siblings also own the building, which will be offered for lease or put up for sale following the closure. A specific final day in operations was not announced, but the brewery plans to operate through the Cal fall semester, which ends on Dec. 18.
“After 40 years, we are ready to spend less time navigating the day-to-day and more time exploring some of the other things we have put off along the way,” co-founder John Martin said in the announcement.
