A new recreational trail in San Francisco’s Peninsula watershed is proving to be a hit with hikers and bikers. Maybe too much so.
Reports of the parking lot filling to capacity, cars backing up on the highway and people spilling into traffic, sometimes taking selfies in the road and littering, have persisted since the Skyline Watershed Ridge Trail on Skyline Boulevard opened last month.
Neighbors in the thinly populated area of San Mateo County have been voicing complaints about congestion and safety, particularly on the weekends, and they’ve got the ear of at least one county supervisor. That leader is calling for San Francisco officials, who built the trail on city-owned land, to address what he describes as “troubling behavior” — quickly.
“They did an amazing, wonderful thing by investing in this trail,” said Supervisor Ray Mueller, who represents much of western San Mateo County. “We just need a little bit of modification because of how many people want to enjoy it.”…
