A 56-year-old man invited to live with two cousins in their East Oakland home about a week ago is now accused of shooting them both, touching off a standoff that brought a SWAT team to the quiet Patten district block before dawn broke. The wounded men, ages 29 and 33, managed to get themselves out of the house and call for help, while the suspect barricaded himself inside and refused to come out for hours.
According to East Bay Times, the shooting happened inside a residence in the 3200 block of Lynde Street at about 2:01 a.m. Monday. Police say the two wounded men are cousins who were found in stable condition at a hospital after leaving the home on their own and calling police themselves.
Initial police reports described a dispute among the three men that escalated into a physical altercation before the shooting, though officers have not said what that dispute was about, the outlet reports.
