Fremont police: Three thieves busted after crashing stolen car in Newark

(KRON) — Three thieves were nabbed with a trunk full of cigarettes after they ransacked a local convenience store, led police on a chase in Fremont, and crashed a stolen car in Newark, according to the Fremont Police Department.

When police officers arrested the three men, they discovered that one was wanted for homicide in Antioch — 22-year-old Keotis King Patterson of San Lorenzo, according to FPD.

The incident began on the night of January 22. A convenience store clerk told police that two masked men entered his store on Central Avenue in Fremont, grabbed cartons of cigarettes, and fled in a getaway vehicle.

Officers found the getaway vehicle nearby and chased it. The driver eventually lost control and crashed at the intersection of Central Avenue and Cedar Boulevard in Newark.

Police said the driver, 18-year-old Zocari Randy Hicks of Oakland, and front seat passenger, 21-year-old Warren Christopher Rodgers Jr., bolted out of the vehicle and ran off. Patterson remained sitting in the backseat and complied with officers’ commands.
