Some animals might be absolutely adorable, but that doesn’t always necessarily mean they need to be kept as pets. And while this notion might be a no-brainer for some , at the same time, videos like this prove that others still need to hear it.
An illegally-owned female marmoset was recently brought to the Oakland Zoo for immediate care after being seized from a private residence in Southern California. As we see in this video shared by the zoo, she was kept in substandard conditions and was unfortunately suffering injuries.
She’s now being treated, loved and cared for at the Oakland Zoo and she even got a new name— Estrela —partly due to the star-shaped marking on her forehead. As unsure and confused as she looks in her temporary home, it’s such a relief to know she’ll soon be able to live and thrive in an environment that caters to her unique needs.

The zoo gave Estrela all the proper exams, as well as an ultrasound, and will be caring for her until she completes her quarantine. From there, she’ll move to her new permanent home at a wildlife sanctuary in Texas where she’ll be able to truly live a life of freedom—the life she deserves.
