‘He never left,’ woman says after ‘housemate from hell’ forced her out of 40-year home and across the country to escape

A TENANT has been forced to leave her home after her roommate drove her and her caretaker out.

Bonita Cohn, a 76-year-old local artist, has been a tenant of a three-bedroom apartment in the Nob Hill area of San Francisco for over 40 years.

In October 2022, Cohn said she had no choice but to move out when a tenant named Lloyd Hernandez moved in.

“I never had a problem before meeting Loyd,” Cohn told The San Francisco Standard.

“He was supposed to be temporary, but he just never left.”

Hernandez stopped paying rent after two and a half months and used intimidation and harassment to drive Cohn, her other housemates, and her home health aide, Everic Dupuy, out of the apartment.

Cohn’s neighbor, Nelson Hyde Chick, told the Standard that Hernandez was the “housemate from hell.”

“I understand if there’s someone who lives somewhere for a decade and loses their job and can’t work, but this isn’t that. This is someone taking advantage of why the rental laws exist,” Chick told the Standard.
