1-on-1: Oakland Mayor Sheng Thao talks 911 calling crisis, state deadline, HR fallout

With just over five months until the State’s deadline for Oakland to bring its 911 answering times into compliance, dangerously long pick-up times still plague the city. If the city cannot meet the July 26 deadline set by the California Office of Emergency Services (CalOES), the agency said Oakland would take away state funding and possibly Oakland’s 911 center because calls would be routed to another agency.
