Good Samaritans pin assault suspect down until police arrive after horrifying attack on stranger

In a shocking incident on February 12, 2024, at approximately 9:10 p.m., Fremont Police officers swiftly responded to a distress call regarding a sexual assault near Fremont Blvd. and Eggers Dr.

A female victim reported that she was walking alone when she was violently attacked by an unknown assailant, police said.

The victim detailed a harrowing encounter, explaining that the suspect forcibly pulled her to the ground, assaulting her both physically and sexually, police said.

The assailant, later identified as 27-year-old Marvin Velasquez, a resident of Fremont, was not known to the victim, according to investigators.

Disturbingly, the suspect fled the scene only to be subdued by vigilant community members who acted swiftly, holding him until law enforcement arrived, police said.

Velasquez now faces serious charges, including Kidnapping with intent to rape, Sexual penetration with a foreign object, Assault with a deadly weapon by force likely to produce great bodily injury, and for Battery with serious bodily injury.
